About the club
Juventus were founded in 1897 by a group of Turin schoolboys, on a street bench - and grew into the biggest club in Italy. Nobody comes close to their haul of league titles: more than thirty-five. The black-and-white stripes, the "Old Lady" nickname and an uncompromising demand for victory made them a national institution, with supporters in every town and every corner of Italy.
Turin surprises visitors: a regal, elegant city at the foot of the Alps, with arcaded boulevards, some of the world's finest chocolate and historic cafés. And the stadium - compact, steep and loud - offers something completely different from the old giants: you sit close to the grass, the singing rolls from stand to stand, and when the anthem plays the whole place is on its feet. A beautiful city, football at the very highest level.
The stadium
The Allianz Stadium opened in 2011 on the site of the old Delle Alpi and changed Italian football: a compact, English-style bowl of around 41,000 with no running track, its front rows just metres from the touchline. It is steep, loud and almost always full - and with the pitch so close, every surge of the crowd hits you physically.

Things to do in Turin
Mole Antonelliana and the Cinema Museum
The city's symbol: a soaring spire housing the National Cinema Museum. A glass lift climbs through the dome to a panoramic deck over Turin and the Alps.
The Egyptian Museum
One of the most important Egyptian collections in the world outside Cairo - mummies, papyri and statues thousands of years old. It's easy to lose three hours here without noticing.
Historic cafés and chocolate
Turin is Italy's chocolate capital: try a bicerin - a layered drink of espresso, chocolate and cream - in one of the ancient cafés, and take gianduiotti chocolates home.
Piazza Castello and the Royal Palace
The royal heart of Turin, capital of the House of Savoy: a grand square, a lavish palace and covered arcades all around. A lovely walk, kids included.
Lingotto
The old Fiat factory with a car test track on its roof - today a buzzing complex of shops and galleries. A very cool relic of the city's industrial past.
Worth knowing
- "Juventus" is Latin for "youth" - the name chosen by the schoolboys who founded the club. The irony: this of all teams became known as "the Old Lady".
- Until 1903 Juventus played in pink! The black-and-white stripes arrived in a shipment of shirts from England - the kit of Notts County.
- The gold star above the badge for every ten league titles is an Italian invention - and Juventus were the first club in the world to wear one.
- The Allianz Stadium was the first major ground in Italy fully owned by the club itself - and its front row sits just metres from the grass.
Tips for the travelling fan
- 01There is no metro to the stadium: from the centre it's about 40 minutes by bus or tram, or take a taxi. For big evening games, leave two hours before kick-off.
- 02Bring your passport - tickets in Italy are personal, and gate checks match the name on the ticket to your ID.
- 03Pair match day with the stadium tour and club museum in the morning, and buy merchandise at the megastore on site or the official store in the city centre.
