About the club

The stadium
The Stadio Diego Armando Maradona - formerly San Paolo - sits in the Fuorigrotta district in the city's west, with around 55,000 seats in three rings, only two of them in use. The noise here is legendary: when the crowd sings, the concrete itself seems to move. It may not be Italy's most modern ground, but few places on earth put you so deep inside the game - and inside a whole city's love story.

Things to do in Naples
Spaccanapoli and the historic centre
The street that slices the old city like a knife: churches, artisan workshops, hanging laundry and the smell of coffee. One of Europe's most intoxicating historic centres - a World Heritage site.
The Maradona murals in the Quartieri Spagnoli
Deep in the alleyways hides the giant Maradona mural - a genuine pilgrimage site surrounded by scarves, photos and candles. Essential for any football fan.
Pizza on Via dei Tribunali
Naples is the birthplace of pizza, and this street holds its historic pizzerias. The queue is part of the experience - and the first bite is worth every minute of it.
The Lungomare and Castel dell'Ovo
A long seafront promenade with Vesuvius on the horizon, seafood restaurants and the ancient fortress on the water. Sunset here is among Italy's finest - and it's great with kids too.
A day trip to Pompeii
About half an hour by train separates Naples from the Roman city frozen in time. One of Italy's most powerful experiences - set out early and bring a hat and water.
Worth knowing
- Days after Maradona's death in 2020, the city renamed the stadium in his honour - from San Paolo to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
- When Maradona was unveiled in Naples in 1984, around 75,000 people paid for a ticket just to watch him wave from the pitch.
- A tiny bar in the city centre keeps a "miraculous hair" of Maradona in a little shrine - stop for an espresso and leave with a story for life.
- With Maradona, Napoli won their first two titles in 1987 and 1990 - and when the third arrived after 33 years of longing, the city celebrated for months, painted sky-blue from end to end. A fourth followed in 2025, just two years later.
Tips for the travelling fan
- 01The stadium is in the Fuorigrotta district: metro Line 2 to Campi Flegrei or the Cumana railway to Mostra, then a short walk. Arrive at least ninety minutes early.
- 02Gate staff match the name on your ticket against ID - carry your passport, and remember the queues grow the closer you get to kick-off.
- 03Eat your pizza in the historic centre before heading out - around the ground it's mostly street stalls. And if stalls it is: grab a cuoppo, a paper cone piled with Neapolitan fried treats.
