About the club
Lazio are Rome's senior club - founded back in 1900, years before their city rivals, by a group of sportsmen who believed in the Olympic spirit. The sky-blue and white colours were chosen as a tribute to Greece, birthplace of the Olympics, and the eagle on the crest became one of the most recognisable in Italy. Titles, cups and great moments - including a championship won exactly in the club's centenary year - built enormous pride here.
Watching Lazio at the Olimpico means experiencing the Curva Nord: an entire stand painting itself sky-blue, giant flags and singing that never stops for a moment. And when you're not at the game, you're simply in Rome - the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, glorious Roman cooking. It's wonderfully easy to combine a football weekend with a real holiday, in a city that hosts like no other.
The stadium
Lazio host at the Stadio Olimpico in the Foro Italico complex, on the banks of the Tiber beneath Monte Mario: around 70,000 seats under a ring-shaped roof, with an athletics track circling the grass. The fans' home is the Curva Nord, from which sky-blue, flags and song pour over the whole stadium. On big nights, even from the far stands, it's impossible to stay unmoved.

Things to do in Rome
Ponte Milvio
One of Rome's oldest bridges, with a whole district of bars and restaurants on its far side, walking distance from the stadium. On match evenings this is where it all begins.
The Vatican and St Peter's
The museums, the Sistine Chapel and the immense basilica. Climb the dome for the finest view in all of Rome - and book tickets in advance.
The Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps
The classic walking route of central Rome: toss a coin in the fountain, climb the steps, and find another beautiful piazza behind every corner.
Castel Sant'Angelo
An imposing round fortress on the Tiber, once an emperor's mausoleum. The kids will love the secret passages; you'll love the rooftop view.
True Roman cooking
Rome is the capital of the great pastas: cacio e pepe, carbonara and amatriciana. Seek out a small local trattoria - that's where the best plates hide.

Tips for the travelling fan
- 01Reach the stadium on line 2 from Piazzale Flaminio plus a short riverside walk, or on foot from the Ponte Milvio district. Line 2 normally runs as a tram, but while Rome's tram network is under repair it runs as a replacement bus on the same route - check before you set off. Plan your way back in advance - everyone leaves at once.
- 02Tickets in Italy are personal: bring your passport, come early, and allow time for the security rings around the Foro Italico.
- 03The Curva Nord is the singing heart of the support - an incredible experience, but if you'd rather watch in comfort choose the side stands, where the view is superb and you still hear everything.
