About the club

The stadium
Anfield is a temple. Expanded and modernised over the years to hold around 61,000, it has somehow kept the intimacy and noise that made it legendary. The Kop behind the goal is the beating heart - a wall of people that sings, sways and pulls the team forward. Things to do in Liverpool
Royal Albert Dock
Liverpool's beautifully restored historic docks: The Beatles Story, waterside restaurants and cafés and a fine walk along the water. Note that Tate Liverpool is closed for refurbishment and is due to reopen in 2027, while the Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum are closed until 2028. The perfect starting point for getting to know the city.
Mathew Street & the Cavern Club
Where it all began: the Cavern Club, where The Beatles played their early gigs, and live music spilling out of the pubs all day long. A must even if you're not a superfan.
Pier Head & the Three Graces
Liverpool's iconic waterfront, home to the three grand historic 'Graces' and the Beatles statue. Sunset here, looking out over the River Mersey, is a picture you'll keep.
The Baltic Triangle
Liverpool's young, creative quarter: street art, food markets, local breweries and live music - the place to spend the evening before the match.
Anfield Stadium Tour & Museum
Touch the 'This Is Anfield' sign, sit in the dressing room and stand before a silent, empty Kop - a tour that moves even fans who've seen it all.
Worth knowing
- Anfield was originally Everton's home. When Everton left in 1892, the landlord John Houlding founded a brand-new club to fill his empty ground - Liverpool FC.
- 'You'll Never Walk Alone' actually comes from a 1940s Broadway musical; it became the Kop's anthem after a Liverpool band turned it into a hit in the 1960s.
- Players touch the 'This Is Anfield' sign on the way to the pitch - a tradition from the days of the legendary Bill Shankly, meant to remind his men where they were, and to unsettle the visitors.
- The famous Kop is named after Spion Kop, a hill in South Africa - and in its old standing days it packed in close to 30,000 fans, one giant terrace singing with a single voice.
Tips for the travelling fan
- 01There's no train station next to Anfield: take a city bus or a match-day shuttle from the centre, grab a taxi - or walk it in about 45 minutes via Stanley Park.
- 02Be in your seats at least 20 minutes before kick-off so you catch 'You'll Never Walk Alone' in full - it's Anfield's signature moment, and you don't want to hear it from the concourse.
- 03Base yourselves in the city centre, around the Albert Dock or Liverpool ONE, rather than near the ground - you'll enjoy the city far more. Buy your merch at the stadium store or the club shop in town.
