De Kuip

De Kuip

A steep two-tier bowl from 1937 - De Kuip is Dutch for "the tub", after its shape. The suspended second ring leaves no pillars in the way, the crowd sits right on top of the pitch, and the stands are famous for physically shaking when the fans jump together.

Seat-picking tips

  • The second ring along the long sides - the Maastribune and Olympiatribune, where the block letters are doubled - gives the best view in the ground, and costs less than the central blocks of the first ring.
  • Vak S on the Gerard Meijer stand behind the goal is the loudest part of the ground, but you stand for the full ninety minutes and the far goal is hard to follow.
  • In the first ring take the back rows - they shelter under the overhanging second ring, while the front rows are too low to follow the far side of the pitch.
