About the club
Feyenoord is the beating heart of Rotterdam - a club built on hard work, local pride and unconditional love. Founded in 1908 on the south side of the city, it became the first Dutch club to lift the European Cup in 1970 and has collected dozens of trophies since. The motto 'no words, but deeds' says it all: direct, honest, hard-running football, just like the city it comes from.
A match at De Kuip is one of the most intense experiences European football has to offer. Het Legioen - 'the Legion', as the fans are known - fills the ground with deafening song from warm-up to final whistle, and when the whole stadium joins in 'Hand in Hand', goosebumps are guaranteed. Add a young, surprising city of bold architecture and great food, and you have a perfect weekend.
The stadium
De Kuip - 'the Tub' in Dutch - opened in 1937 and remains one of Europe's legendary grounds. Its two hanging tiers bring around 47,500 fans close to the pitch, and the steep bowl turns the crowd into a wall of sound rolling around the stadium. It is not the newest or shiniest arena, and that is exactly the charm: you come here for football and atmosphere.

Things to do in Rotterdam
Markthal
A spectacular horseshoe-shaped food hall with a giant painted ceiling. Dozens of stalls, from Dutch cheese to Asian street food - the perfect lunch stop.
The Cube Houses
Rotterdam's icon of daring architecture - tilted yellow cubes you can actually enter. One is open as a show home, so you can see how people live at an angle.
Euromast
The city's observation tower. From around 100 metres up you take in the vast port, the bridges and the skyline - best just before sunset.
Erasmus Bridge & the Water Taxi
Cross 'the Swan', the elegant bridge that became the city's symbol, or hop a yellow water taxi between the banks - the most fun way to feel Rotterdam's port-city energy.
Katendrecht & the Food Warehouses
A former docklands quarter reborn: old warehouses turned into food stalls, local breweries and markets. Young, local vibes away from the tourist trail.
Worth knowing
- Feyenoord was the first Dutch club to win the European Cup, in 1970 - and lifted the Intercontinental Cup in the same year.
- De Kuip has hosted ten European finals - very few grounds on the continent can match that record.
- Before every home game, tens of thousands sing 'Hand in Hand' together - an anthem passed down through generations and one of Dutch football's spine-tingling moments.
- When it opened in 1937, De Kuip's design - two hanging tiers with no view-blocking pillars - was revolutionary, decades ahead of its time.
Tips for the travelling fan
- 01On matchdays, trams run from the city centre toward the stadium in Rotterdam-Zuid. Leave early - at least an hour before kick-off - as the streets around De Kuip fill up fast.
- 02Try a kapsalon, the fast-food dish invented in Rotterdam: fries layered with shawarma, melted cheese and salad. You will find it on almost every corner, and it is perfect matchday fuel.
- 03The official fan shop sits right by the stadium, and if you are in town a day early, book a De Kuip guided tour - players' tunnel, dugouts and stands included.
